P/S : Click the pix if it s too small
The rattan floor lamp project, unmistakably, has become one of my favorite 3d rattan projects - from the educational viewpoint of course. True, there are many ideas that can be exercised into doing 3d rattan werks, (coffee table, wall mirror, single seater n such..), but i often feel that the floor lamp project is the best way to evaluate the students understanding on creative and critical design thinking learned in year one. It serves as a window to their thoughts of understanding. It isnt too difficult, and it isnt too easy either. It is just right for the students to start exploring the world in 3d space - vertical, horizontal or diagonal. Should the final outcomes are somewhat disappointed, then, there are two areas needed to be reanalyzed-1st year aka foundation year or my method of teachings. Huhu. It is a good transition too from their usual basketry, to something more complex and difficult. So, hopefully, when doing projects like "a living room set", they could improvise based on lessons learned during their rattan lamp project.

morning rizal. i like the rattan works... any more to see? gallery or something... expensive n take a long time to learn?
BalasPadamhey abner.. thanks for dropping by. Well, yeah, i try to post more rattan works here. Very difficult to get Malaysia Rattan works here on the net (i mean Malaysian sites). Mostly there are on batik. Anyway, you can click "rattan crafts" under the label to see more works there. Those are all works mostly from my school-from basketry to furniture. Well, a simple butterfly bookmark is very cheap but a full fledge rattan furniture could cost you hundreds of Malaysian ringgit. Learning on making a simple basket could take like 3 hours and by just knowing few rules..later you can make it in your own spare time- 30min-1hour Over here, certificate in rattan takes 2 years and diploma in rattan takes 3 years to complete. Well, anyway hope you browse the "rattan works" label and may you find something of interest to you. :)
BalasPadamhey thank you in return. hey it surprises me that they have course that long to complete. interesting... i am always fascinated with stuff like these. but the batik... maybe too much exposure... i don't really fancy it.
BalasPadamterima kasih pak rizal sudi singgah di blog saya...baru belajar bikin blog....kalau mahu lihat kraft rotan ada banyak di pekan baru, riau...memang mantap dan kreatif sekali...thanx for your continues visit.
BalasPadamyeah..we have such long courses :).. in fact IKN-Institut Kraf Negara offers 6 programs - batik, tenun, fine metal, ceramics, woodcraft and rattan. But frankly, i am more into 3d than batik or tenun. Still, i respect those who venture into these fields. well, i respect and salute anybody who ventures into arts, crafts or design.
BalasPadamterima kasih pak bonoriau.
